Julebukking

Posted in Talking Fish at 4:50 pm by Seth Scrimsher

Julebukking is not just a great scrabble word, or a word that sounds like a crazy sex act you wouldn’t talk about in front of you mom. It’s also an old tradition where godless pagans would dress up in costumes and drop by their neighbors for free food and drink. It’s kept somewhat alive in Petersburg Alaska every year during Christmas. Here in Little Norway nobody dresses up and people only go to the local businesses to feast on free food. It’s so popular people actually line up at some places. The drug store in particular draws a huge crowd. Sometimes the waiting is upwards of 30-40 minutes for a pastrami sandwich. A pastrami sandwich. A single pastrami sandwich. Check out Orin checking out the line of hopeful pastrami eaters.

Tonka caters for Wells Fargo’s Julebukking every year. It’s the only branch in all of America that does Julebukking. Shocking I know. We put out a huge spread for them this year; smoked Halibut lox, smoked Salmon lox, pickled Halibut cheeks, Prawns, Shrimp, Salmon dip and smoked Oysters. We also catered for Zoom Bikes on a much much much smaller scale (thanks Mike and Zieak!). Petersburg Shipwrights also ordered a spread from us as well.
